About our practice

Jacksonville Pediatrics is pleased to announce the addition of our latest pediatrician, Dr. Jennifer Chally.   Dr. Chally graduated from the University of North Florida for undergraduate,  The University of Miami medical school, and the University of Florida/Jacksonville Pediatric Residency Program.  She joined Jacksonville Pediatrics in January 2010.

Jacksonville Pediatrics was founded in the 1960's by Dr. Steve Gyland and Dr. James Lanier.  Many of our parents today were actually patients of Dr. Gyland and Lanier in the past.  The tradition of excellent pediatric care continues today with Dr. Thornton, Dr. Stanley, Dr. McClelland, Dr. Chally and our nurse practitioner, Pamela Wentworth. Our office is centrally located in the Riverside area of Jacksonville.  It can be reached within 20-30 minutes from most areas of town.

Important Announcements!

  • Great News!  Starting in August, Jacksonville Pediatrics will have available the new combination vaccine called Pentacel.  This vaccine combines the DTaP, Polio and HIB vaccines into a single injection.  This reduces the number of injections significantly at the 2, 4 and 6 month visits!
  • Jacksonville Pediatrics will now has available the new Rotavirus vaccine.  Rotavirus is the most common cause of vomiting and diarrhea in infants and children.  It results in hundreds of hosptializations and thousands of doctor and ER visits every year... and that's just here in Jacksonville!  It is an oral vaccine but can only be given between 2mo and 8 mo of age and three doses are needed.  The series must be started by 12 weeks of age and must be completed by 8 months of age. Visit www.rotateq.com for more information.
  • Jacksonville Pediatrics has available the vaccine series for Human Papilloma Virus.  It is a good idea for all girls age 9 and up.  HPV is the leading cause of cervical cancer in young women.  Visit www.gardasil.com for more information.  Most insurance companies are now covering this vaccine.
  • Pertussis(Whooping Cough):   There has been a significant increase in whooping cough in recent years.  One of the reasons is that teens and adults often get pertussis because their infant vaccine benefit has worn off.  Teens and adults with pertussis seem like they just have a bad cold but when they pass it to a young infant that child can get extremely ill!  We are using a new tetanus booster at age 12 which contains a pertussis booster as well.  Parents might want to consider vaccination themselves, especially if they have young infants.  Visit www.adacelvaccine.com for more information.
